A mysterious, rare, and extraordinary marine creature of the deep has made a surprising appearance on Southern California shores. A rare oarfish was discovered by a group of kayakers and snorkelers in La Jolla Cove over the weekend. The massive, silvery fish was transported to shore on a paddleboard and subsequently turned over to scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography for further examination.
