After 24 years in power, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has resigned and fled the country as rebel forces successfully seize control of the capital, Damascus. The dramatic regime change marks the culmination of over a decade of civil war, with opposition forces declaring Syria liberated. Assad is now confirmed to have sought asylum in Russia, with the Kremlin granting him refuge.
