Pablo Scipione of Lancaster is awarded $58 million for a workplace injury that began as a hairline fracture in his foot. Eight years ago, Scipione, an independent contractor for a railroad freight company owned by a Japanese firm, sustained the injury when a piece of equipment fell on his foot. This seemingly minor injury led to significant medical complications, forcing Scipione to quit working.

Scipione's legal battle began after the company’s lawyers rejected his attorneys' initial request for a $3 million settlement. The rejection proved costly, as a Los Angeles Superior Court jury this week awarded Scipione over. . .
